How to use the Goal Seek Feature
This tutorial demonstrates how to to use the goal seek feature in Excel.

This spreadsheet calculates monthly loan payments.

Each Amount is an entered value.

The Payment is calculated using the three entered values.

A lower interest rate would lower the monthly payment.

If we wanted a montly payment of $900, we could keep adjusting the rate by trial and error, or we could use the Goal Seek Tool.

The Goal Seek function will set a calculated cell to a desired value by adjusting an entered value.

Set Cell is highlighted.

Click the Payment formula.

Cell B4 has been indicated.

Move to the To Value field.

...and enter the desired payment amount of -900.

Now move to the By Changing Cell field.

...and select the Rate cell as the value to change.

Cell B3 has been selected.

Click OK to run.

The Target Value has been reached by adjusting the rate to 7.02%.

Click OK to accept these terms.
